Involve employees in planning and problem solving

idea posted by Nikhil Jain Senior Consultant

I think to increase trust between the employee and the employer, the employer or the manager should involve employees in planning and solving problems by asking their contributions and using them well...

there should be a two way communication between employee and employer. on the one hand employee will feel his importance in the company and on the other hand employee will know the potential of his employees, their skills, their problems which will be helpful in effective employer employee relationship.

As Murlidhar Sir said honesty and transparency are the key factors if one wants to build the trust among employees. If the employees are treated as the stakeholders of an organisation then that will go a long way in the efficiency of the organisation.

According to me trasparent communication could build employees trust on an organisation.Because i do believe that all the employees in any organisation, are not capable enough of taking important decision and taking part in making stretegy. So its not important to participate in major decision rather its important to have transparency between all in an organisation.Only decision making & problem solving power cant feel employees important to the the organisation. My view is to share all those things which essential to know, then there will be no discripencies.

One way to quickly build trust is to improve your communication with your boss and your employees. The more open and honest your communication, the more trust you will have in your relationships. The frequency of your communication with your boss and employees should not be under estimated. The more frequently you communicate with someone, the more opportunities you have to build trust.

This practice was introduced by the living legend Jack Welch while working with GE. Introducing candor club in the organization. And it changed the organization a lot.

For building trust, I believe placing trust is the first thing; taking a risk of trusting each other; not letting each other's trust down; ignoring a few times when the trust is not reciprocated; and strengthening it with greater trust when the trust is reciprocated.

Trust is an important part of human relatioship. It is built over a period of time.People stop trusting due to past experiences as a result of breach of trust. It is worth giving a try.Relatioships are built on trust

By utilizing employees skills as fullest which giveas them work satisfaction would surely built a good relation with the employees of an organisation.

Make them have a feel of their profile irrespective of high or less depending on their calibur

But one importat thing is that simultaneously a managment should control employees if they misuse ytheir profilr.

I agree with what virti says that the most effective way to build trust in the workplace is to work together. There are no magic gimmicks or other simple solutions. Trust cannot be created by excessive wages, great company picnics or wonderful working conditions; it can only be generated through teamwork, honesty and fairness.

dealing with emplyee

idea posted by Ushakant Mishra Partner/Principal/VP

employee & employer relationship is 2-way street. It is very important to make the emplyee feel as part of the family. Also the mid-manager should protect the emplyee from unfair treatment of others including the senior management.

As I have seen these in several hurdles of barrier in almost all the organisation these days. But to solve these barriers and keep open communication platform exercise by famous J program called Job relationship program. This is one of itself, you will device the program according to your Organization enviornment, but keeping the basics in it. Also time to time developing internal discussion, initialize some game will help to understand each other opinion & mindset. It's journey not a single day result.

Positive reinforcements

idea posted by Sunil S Chiplunkar Manager - Marketing & Training

Trust implies RELIABILITY. If an individual trusts a co-worker it means there is some reliability factor operating. This comes through continuous interactions. Trust is built up slowly in most cases - body language, active listening  -verbal and nonverbal communication, various shared assignments - these help build trust.

For an employee to build trust, ones own character is important, as it is most important in building a team.

Trust is built by the managers

idea posted by Ganapathy J Admin/Facilities Manager

Trust is built by the people who execute company policies and schemes. Hence any one in the chain of managers responsible for such implementations who faults could bring down the trust level of an employee. Trust building exercises come through the following :

1) Regular briefing of the company activities

2) Regular interaction of the top brass with evry  one down the line

3) Transparency in HR working

4) Periodical motivational programmes

5) Inputs to upgrade the skill of the employee at all levels like holding workshop on skill and also personality development.

6) A decent exit policy.

Mr.Avijit can you elaborate on your point of self appraisal. If i am not wrong are you trying to say that employees will themselves decide on their appraisal and if it is so then i don't think so that there will be any need for the HR department of the company. It will be nice if you can make your point more clear.

Credibility

idea posted by Vishnu B Singh Engineering Manager

Being credible is the corner stone to win the trust of employees. The starting point would be to understand the things colleagues and sub-ordinates are doing, taking interest in what they do, give advices as per your expertize and fostering a relation of openess. Taking interest in their issues. being fair and frankness leads to credibility. Once the employess see that their manager or team leader have demonstrated these traits, they will trust.

Integrity

idea posted by Vishnu B Singh Engineering Manager

Integrity means adherence to ethical values and practices. Managers who are evasive and do not seem committed to the team's best interests are not at all trusted by the team members.

Being manipulative leads to mistrust. Such managers are only after their own personal agenda. They play safe and will never back their colleagues or team members at the time of need. Such managers are never transparent, they hold their cards to their heart, never opens up and look for oppurtunities to score their own point.

Managers who show staff that they have strong ethical standards and values and are willing to behave in ways that support them will foster trust within the team

Treat them equally: - there should not be any Employer- Employee scenario….everybody should be accessible and approachable.

idea posted by Rohini Kaushal HR Executive

Hi,

In order to build the trust with employees

First of all we should not follow the Employer-Employee custom in any organization. Everybody should be treated equally. the relation with the b/w the leaders and team members should be so clean & clear that nobody should feel he is working on a lower post or under anybody. They should get the feeling that everybody in the organization are working together for the interest of the organization. By this everybody would respect & trust each other and they will be assured that if they face any problem they can easily approach their leaders.

Regards,

Rohini.

committment

idea posted by Vishnu B Singh Engineering Manager

Team members will trust a manager who is committed to them as individuals and to the success of the team. A leader who is willing to sacrifice time and energy to make things work as well as possible is always sure to get the trust of the team. A strong sense of committment is contagious and does good to the team. Committment can be showing interest and empathy in your staff, being willing to address—rather than avoid—problems and issues, and demonstrating the ability to articulate your vision for the team and stick by it the best you can

Communicating the Intent clearly

idea posted by Ashok Wilfred George CEO/MD/Director

To a large extent trust takes a beating as intent are not communicated clearly. In work situation what is overlooked is the basic i.e how org\people communicate. Its assumed our communication skills are in place. Trust breaks when communication breaks.

Reliability

idea posted by Vishnu B Singh Engineering Manager

Inconsistent behavior leads to discomfort, confusion and ultimately mistrust in team. This goes a long way in creating a disharmony in team. Hence its imperative on the part of the manager/team leader to exhibit a behavior which is consistent, which is rational and which is just for the team.

Reliability in behavior brings along with it comfort and willingness in the team.
